 WELCOME TO 1ST GRADE!

I am extremely excited to get this year started!

Since this is the first week of school and its a short week, we will have a more fun and relaxed schedule than we typically do so the children can get to know each other, and me, and so I can get to know them. I hope this will help make an easier transition into first grade together.

Our first day (Wednesday) will have fun ice breaker games and group collaborative assignments so the class can get to know each other. On this day we will be touring the classroom, and the school so the children can be familiar with their surrounds and hopefully make them more comfortable. We will be learning and creating classroom rules and procedures as well as introducing and assigning classroom duties to each student.

One the second day (Thursday) we will be assigning and familiarizing ourselves with the Chromebooks and programs the children will be using during the school year so we can take our time and get to know the resources we will be using. We will be learning how to properly and safely use the equipment and programs and how to store and charge them properly so they can be ready to be used each day. We will also be receiving the folders and materials the students will be using throughout the classroom and taking home each day and labeling each one for the subject they will be correlated with so the children can familiarize themselves with all the materials we will be using in the classroom. This day will be mainly focusing on the children receiving all the materials they will need in the classroom throughout the year, getting familiar with them, and having time to ask any questions they may have.

On the final day of the first week (Friday) we will be reading books about 1st grade. Creating our wish lists for the year of what we wish to accomplish by the end of 1st grade. Creating the calendar for the year so the students will know what to look forward to and get a baseline idea of how the school year will proceed. We will finish the day allowing the students to choose how they would like to end the first week by either doing more ice breakers, more reading, or any fun ideas they may come up with.

I hope for this year, each student feels comfortable and prepared for 1st grade. I am looking forward to all the learning we will be doing together and seeing how much each and every student grows!
